Geocoding and Reverse Geocoding API
Geo Coding
Input
an address in text form, a company or place name, a postal code, a point of interest, etc.
Output
longitude and latitude (the geographic location) plus additional information from the database (supplementary details held in the database, geometry information, opening hours, up to and including possible Wikipedia references), and potentially "bounding boxes" — that is, the outline of larger objects described by a polygon.
Reverse Geocoding
Input
Longitude and latitude, for example from a GPS reading or a click on a map
Output
the geographically nearest "most relevant" object, with alternatives where applicable — its address, name and additional information.
Technology
Nominatim
Geocoding based on OSM data; requests are handled by our Apache web server.
